Learning Objectives
- Handle email securely
In the previous lesson, we talked about the red flags that indicate a phishing email. The best handling of a phishing email is to report it directly from your email inbox. In here, we will show how to report on Microsoft Outlook so the IT department can look further into this email and perhaps do further actions such as more stringent email rule creation. To report suspicious emails on Outlook, you can follow these general steps: Select the suspicious email in your Outlook inbox to open it. Look for the toolbar at the top of the email window. You should see several icons. Find and click on the "Report Message" icon. It may be labeled as "Report Junk" or "Report Phishing," depending on your Outlook version and configuration. A drop-down menu will appear with various reporting options. Choose the appropriate option based on the nature of the suspicious email. For example, you might have options like "Phishing," "Junk," "Not Junk," or "Report as Suspicious." After selecting the relevant reporting option, Outlook will automatically perform the requested action. This can include forwarding the email to Microsoft for analysis or moving it to the junk folder. To report a phishing email on mobile, follow these steps: Select the email you'd like to report. Tap the three dots at the top of the screen. Select "Report Junk" from the dropdown menu. You can then select whether it is Junk, Phishing, or if you'd like to Block Sender.
